32 years at competitive fly fishing and I’ve finally  Got One

Contact: jigreenwood@supanet.com

I can only thank my dad for passing on to me his fly fishing skills, I can remember him taking me on the bar of his bike, to the famous River Coyle, where I caught my first and biggest trout, never to be surpassed, I’ve been competing for 32 years, travelled all over the World, met hundreds of friends, and loved every minute, the highlight being winning gold in Dryman Scotland 2009, I never thought for one moment I would loose on my home ground, it was a brilliant performance by Hardy & Greys Team England, looking forward to the River San in Poland, where I am sure we can again stand on the podium.

I have represented England 28 times in all disciplines, including 14 times as captain, if I include the 4 friendly internationals against Norway, it would make 18. Fished in thirteen National River finals qualified for team England 5 times my favourite event.

John Horsey is England’s highest capped International fly fisher – this year he will win his 33rd England cap. He has also captained England on 5 separate occasions and is the only angler ever to have been appointed Captain of England at all four disciplines –  World Team European Team Loch Style and Rivers.
John’s proudest moment to date was winning the 2009 World Championships in Scotland with Hardy & Greys Tem England. In the same year he also won Individual Silver Medal for England at the European Championships held in Ireland.

John is the UK’s first and best known professional fly-fishing guiding business from Chew Valley Lake near Bristol. During the last 19 years he has guided and taught fishermen extensively in the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia. John is a tackle consultant to the World famous Hardy Greys Company in Alnwick, Northumberland. He is also the Championship Manager and organiser of Europe’s biggest fly fishing competition.

Howard is 33 years old and currently employed as the category manager for Hardy and Greys fly fishing division. Has been fly fishing for 26 years.
Formally a tournament caster having represented England at the World Championships in Slovakia in the late 90’s moved into competitive fishing and has since gained 4 home International caps and 5 World and European caps.
Howard has been fortunate to fish around the World for a vast array of species in both fresh and saltwater including trips to France, Spain, Poland, Slovenia, Finland, Ireland, Africa, Bahamas, New Zealand, Montana, Colorado, Idaho, The Catskills, Florida, Pennsilvannia, and later this year Venezuela.
Although my favourite fishing is still Trout and Grayling in clear waters, my most memorable catch outside of competition fishing is a 110lbs Tarpon caught on a deer hair popper in the Florida Keys last year.

Looking forward to revisiting Poland in June to hopefully reacquaint myself with lots of Trout and Grayling in the River San.
