The Confederation of English Fly Fishers

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Salmon and Trout Association (S&TA) is the Governing Body of Game Fishing in England.  The Confederation of English Fly Fishers (CEFF) recognises that, as such, the S&TA determines overall policy for game fishing and is ultimately responsible for the allocation of Sports Council Grant Aid.
The S&TA recognises the CEFF as being responsible for all official National and International English Competitive Game Fishing, at home or abroad.  Nevertheless, the CEFF accepts that, as Governing Body, the S&TA should retain a veto, which it will exercise only as a last resort to prevent the sport suffering disrepute.

The CEFF recognises the unique status and responsibilities of its Associate Members: the English Disabled Fly Fishers, the English Ladies Fly Fishing Association and the English Youth Fly Fishing Association.

The S&TA delegates to the CEFF responsibility for the allocation and management of grants in aid of competition fishing, in respect of which the CEFF will provide auditors’ reports to the S&TA as and when requested.

The full constitution as at 2007 can be viewed here in PDF format for ease of printing.

CEFF Coaching & Development

The way forward for competitive fly fishing in England is the pursuit of excellence.  This can be achieved by drawing on opportunities in coaching, professional instruction and the development of skills and practice in a concerted, focused way.

The CEFF has been working with the Game Angling Instructors Association, GAIA, to develop this area of our activity.

The aim is to work with GAIA to allow development of all CEFF members, at all levels, including the Youth, Ladies, Disabled and all other Federations, from members entering the qualifiers through to England National Team members.  We wish to see England fly fishing teams in the top echelons of international competitive fishing, and we wish to work with the pool of top class competitors we now have, and develop new members, in order to achieve this goal. We wish to have an open door policy to encourage all persons from all sections of the community wishing to participate.

We will be encouraging members to go for the Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching in Angling qualifications, as well as bringing in formal training/coaching opportunities for competitors.  If we want to fish for England, or be more effective as an International competitor, then we have to improve.  These training opportunities are a means to that end. This web page will be updated to keep you, the CEFF members, informed of developments in this important area.
