2008 North West Fly Fishing Federation Lochstyle Eliminator - STOCKS
2008 North West Fly Fishing Federation Lochstyle Eliminator- DRAYCOTE 18 anglers arrived to fish Draycote Water today and were greeted with blistering sun with periods of flat calm and moderate breeze. Despite these conditions Draycote lived up to its reputation of being a top quality water by giving the contestants an impressive rod average of 9.3. The quality of these fish were demonstrated to me on my third cast when a slab of a fish shot off at a right angle to the boat at a speed that my reel could not keep up with, my 9.5lbs breaking strain leader went with it!!!! The bag limit for the day was eight fish and then catch and release with each additional fish after the first 8 counting as 1lb. The cap of 4lbs was also in force. Bung fished buzzers dominated the day and far out fished long lining and pulling. Nick Donald catching an impressive 7.2lbs brownie along with a 4.5lbs rainbow in his first 8 of 19 fish winning the competition by 3oz's from Andy Taylor who had caught an impressive 21 fish. Keith & his wife, AKA 'that lady', work hard to make this fishery what it is. A big confed thank you to them both. We all felt for Neil O'Shea who got so excited about catching fish, he subsequently lost count and took 9! Having done this he felt compelled to stop fishing. Unable to tell which one of the nine was the last fish meant that the weigh in for Neil would have to be void. One question remains. How can you tell who fishes Lochstyle? Easy, just look for the Muppet with sun burnt nose and cheeks but white forehead and white round the eyes!!!! click here or on the form above to view or print a PDF copy of this entry form ... Photo of first 3 individuals who came 2nd place in the team event as PAAS Falcons the following week from left to right Andy Taylor 2nd, Mick McAloon 3rd and Graham Kennerley 1st. The event was fantastically organised as ever by John & Chris, the fishery owners. I am sure you will all join me for a big CEFF thanks you to them for the following. We endured all manner of weather, hail, rain, sun, wind and sunny periods of flat calm. The owners and their daughter, who was on leave from University, braved all of this to control and record the catches. In addition the owners produced the score cards, maps pegs and organised the draw. Not forgetting the donation of prizes along side our own. All that, and a fantastically managed fishery that is a pleasure to fish. I wish to also specially thank Richard Wood who ensured that a package containing the entry packs & prizes arrived in time for the event at very short notice. The NW River Eliminator was fished on Sunday 17th February 2008. 6 anglers fished a minus 6 degree frost in the Pennines!!! Fishing was exceptionally difficult however some fish were caught. Joint 1st place John Tyzack & Grant Breckell with 9 fish each. 3rd place was Kevin Moran with 4 fish Joint 4th was Mike Lightfoot & Graham Kennerley with 1 fish each. And the duck egg of the day, 0 fish, went to the organiser....Mick McAloon! Mick also found that his mobile phone is not a very good swimmer!!!!!!!! RIP Nokia N95 |
